Vatican meeting with bloggers....

I am so, so, so tempted to apply for this. But right now, the whole costing-thousands-of-dollars thing and the fact that I only get ten vacation-days per year have turned me away. Maybe I'll just e-mail a manuscript of The Church and New Media in lieu of going.....

Update: I applied! Thy will be done..

Put in for it and then put out a tin cup!

Ooh, I'd like to go too, but the whole "leave the wife with all the kids while I go to Italy" just would NOT work.

Frank: That thought is still lingering. I figure I can petition my diocese or parish from some possible help. I'm going to pray about it tonight and try to discern what to do.

Devin: Same thing here. Plus I don't really want to experience Rome and the Vatican without my wife...

Brandon, I just read your conversion story at www.whyimcatholic.com. Great stuff there and thanks for sharing! So nice to hear a man ( and a young man at that!) talk about being ravished by the love of God. My favorite book of the Bible is Song of Songs...

Amanda,

Well, I'm not the only man! Many male saints consider the "Song of Songs" to be the heartbeat--the hinge--of the entire Catholic faith. St. John of the Cross's mystical poetry and Pope John Paul II's "theology of the body" are both soaked in this great love poem.

Christopher West calls the Song of Songs "the authentic soundtrack of Christianity." (If you haven't read West's book, "Heaven's Song", check it out.)

I think too few Christians have glimpsed the passion and intimacy of God's pursuit through the Song of Songs. So its great to find another who enjoys it as much as I do!

Thanks for your comment!

Your brother,
Brandon

Good luck! Sounds like a fabulous opportunity. I'd like to go myself, but I'm already swamped & it's too short of a notice.

I hope you do get to go. You would be a great contributor.

Ah, Brandon, you are right! And didn't mean you are the ONLY guy, but there aren't many women, either who love Song of Songs. I guess I just don't get out much, huh? John of the Cross and JPII, I have heard of them. :0) I may have to check out the Christopher West book you mention. Thanks!
